Brilliant novel. Wyatt is a successful Las Vegas P.I. who unwittingly takes on an assignment in Oklahoma City as a favour for a friend because he mistakenly thinks he is going to Omaha. This is a problem for Wyatt because 26 years earlier, in 1986, he was the only survivor in a Oklahoma theater robbery/mass murder. He has spent the years since that terrible night trying to forget, avoid , and escape from his past. He has moved many times and changed his name, but suddenly he is back in the city that haunts him. Julianna is another character whose life was forever altered in 1986 when her teenaged sister vanished from the city fairground - never to be heard from again. Unlike Wyatt and his avoidance, Julianna has been obsessed over her sister's disappearance and for the past 26 years she has been rehashing the evidence and alienating the authorities. Wyatt works his new case but the memories of 1986 come to haunt both our main characters. This is a very well written crime-mystery with a cast of interesting characters. Despite the sensitive subject matter there is a gentle sense of humour that is never distasteful to the subject matter. This was a novel I really enjoyed on so many levels. 2016 Edgar Award Winner
