As the United States raced against Russia to put a man in space, NASA found untapped talent in a group of African-American female mathematicians that served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in U.S. history. Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson, and Katherine Johnson crossed all gender, race, and professional lines while their brilliance and desire to dream big, beyond anything ever accomplished before by the human race, firmly cemented them in U.S. history as true American heroes.

Sincere, illuminating, and entertaining. A marvellous story about three African-American woman working at NASA, all the while fighting terrible racism throughout the country. Very good acting and plot.

Very informative; seemed like it had only enough time to skim the surface of the story. Would have enjoyed watching an expanded version (miniseries?) covering the characters' lives and times.

It is wonderful that this film pays homage to three remarkable women who overcame, no doubt, much more sexism and racism than presented in the movie. However, the film perpetuates the myth of the American Dream - that anyone can overcome any barrier, and if they do not it is somehow because they did not try hard enough.

An excellent movie worth the watch. It was historical, heartfelt, and moving. All the females did a superb job in portraying their characters.

This movie is worth your time! Great actors, producing, and storyline. I was hesitant at first because I didn't want to cry about the segregation history, but I was impressed with everything, including it being based on a true story. An inspiring movie! It's absolutely ridiculous we never heard about these historical women before. I'm glad NASA was first to help make things right!

Every school should make this part of the curriculum.

Many excellent quotes in IMDb and of course from its book at goodreads .... this classic gem appeared in the film but not in the book:

Despite what you may think, I have nothing against y'all.
- I know, I know you probably believe that.
