The movie tells a great faith-based story, though there is some heavy violence. Not for younger children.

Great acting. Shows history from a fresh point. Will watch it again.

As a Christian, I give the resurrection of Jesus a 5 out of 5 stars. :P

However, Risen was a cool movie with a unique perspective, but I didn't find it all that stellar or engrossing. Perhaps the "coverage" of the so-called manhunt wasn't all that interesting to watch transpire. Although Clavius as played very well by Joseph Fiennes was a very worthy and noble "protagonist." My favourite scene was actually he and Pilate taking a bath :P : the room was super cool and the dialogue was fascinating.

The development of Clavius as he diligently investigated this pesky Jesus and his 'strange' followers with their incredible proclamations was fun to follow. All in all, I'm strained to give the film anything more than 3 1/2 stars even though I enjoyed it overall.

Interesting, fresh take on a familiar story, seen through the eyes of a nonbeliever. The acting is good, and less overly “dramatic” than in the more familiar 50’s cinematic Biblical epics. The sets and costumes seem authentic enough – the bonus material explains how large sets were built in Spain and Malta in order to recreate first-century Jerusalem. The story probes psychological effects as the protagonist comes to question everything he has known. Recommended; believers will find their faith reaffirmed, and nonbelievers (and believers too!) will be drawn into the story as the protagonist tries to solve a mystery.

I've seen RISEN a few times. It's not the best Jesus film I've ever seen, but overall, it's a good film. It's about a Roman soldier (played by Joseph Fiennes) who has to investigate the disappearance of Jesus' body. I think most people can see where it's going. Still, it was an interesting way to tell the story of the Resurrection. The acting and production values were good. I enjoyed Cliff Curtis in the role of Yeshua a.k.a. Jesus. Not a perfect film, but a nice film for Easter.

This movie was really deceptive. You think it's going to be a historical mystery film with Fiennes as lead investigator. It is that, for the first 30-40min or so. Then it turns into a straight-up Bible Study movie about the miracles of Jesus. I felt tricked at the end. It was marketed as one thing, then you get another. I think they did that to get big studio funding and to pull in audiences. Bottom line is: This movie isn't what it says it is.

Despite the blood and guts and grand sets, this was dramatically low-keyed, considering the subject. There were some moving moments near the end, but the lack of truly inspiring dialogue left a somewhat vacant feeling.
Joseph Fiennes' haunted eyes and battle-weary look over the length of the film, stretched just a little thin.

While the Bible clearly tells us about Jesus, his works, and his role as the savior of mankind from their sins, and the author of our eternal salvation, this film, gives yet another viewpoint. This is about a conversion to Jesus from an unlikely source. Interesting.

A Roman soldier investigates Yeshua of Nazareth, at a moment where it might have done some good. It's not a spoiler to reveal he confirms, more or less, the biblical accounts. But just about His whereabouts. No one is curious about the three hours of darkness, the major earthquake, the raising of the Jewish dead. The rending of the veil of the temple? Forget it. There's a dead body to track down. Risen is better acted and directed than usual -- the latter by Kevin Reynolds, of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Waterworld fame, and has somewhat of a sense of humour about the situation. But any film this predictable will be a tough sit for a general audience. Drink! when someone says "Pontius calls for you."

15 min. in I turned it off. Not a great movie. If you want to see it done with quality and grandeur watch The Rob. It's a far superior movie.

The mystery:
How did the stone fall 10 paces from the tomb? It took seven men, myself included, just to roll it closed. And the ropes weren't cut. They were torn as if thread. The seals melted like butter ... How did they take him? What happened to the Nazarene's body?
===
Faith:
--I cannot reconcile all this with the world I know.
With your own eyes you've seen, yet still you doubt. Imagine the doubt of those who have never seen. That's what they face. What frightens you?
--Being wrong. Wagering eternity on it.
===
Tribune, do you truly believe all this?
--I believe... I can never be the same.
