Should have watched this sci-fi sooner if I knew it was so good. While the special effects were not spectacular but plenty good enough to tell an uncluttered story of technological "singularity" with dead-on acting of a hopeless human living in a hopeless future by Antonio Banderas.

This movie would have been much better without the star actors. You can really feel the hate that these characters are trying to put out.

I won't go into this movie's flaws. (Sci-fi movies are easy targets for nitpicking. My bratty inner critic got over it.)

Automata has great concept, and unfolds convincingly. Well worth watching.

Very, very good! Action, suspense, mystery, SF dystopia. The few million remaining humans are dependent on robots after a solar plasma storm hits earth & kills billions. The robots are encoded: 1. Must not harm humans 2. Must not repair themselves. What could go wrong?

I can't admit that this film is perfect. Or I can, in spite of my 3 star rating.
But it does build a fantastic world using the dystopia/cyberpunk genre, and although that sort of depiction is getting less and less scarce these days, it's always great to experience any enthusiastic artist's vision of it.
In this case, you've got your AI and your dystopian occupation ingredients. The set designs, outfits are great, and Antonio is fairly engaging as an actor, maybe not so much a couple of others. But! It does feature Sir Percy Percy of Blackadder as a near unrecognizable villain!
But yes, great to look at but the plot doesn't really go anywhere significant.

Interesting premise a la Asimov which loses its way, and in the end does not satisfy. The robots are more believable in today's technological world than many recent films, but the supposed scientific jumps were just too drastic to be believable, even in a sci-fi movie. Banderas and Forster are fine just don't have good enough material to work with. I enjoyed the noir sensibility of this film, but can't recommend it overall.

The Rainy Intro reminded me of "Blade Runner." But "Blade Runner" had a better script, special effects and complete storyline. "Automata," does have a lot of violence, with car chases and gun battles. The Robots aren't supposed to be able to repair themselves. But then, one female robot begins to have the skills to repair herself and other Robots.

A yawn

Seemed like more of an opportunity to show off robotics ( and the firm that created them ).

IMDb has posted the best quotes already. Here are two:

Why is it so difficult for you to accept my orders if you're just a machine?
-Just a machine? That's like saying that you are just an ape.

===
Funny, you were supposed to help us survive.
-Surviving is not relevant. Living is. We want to live.
