I found this book quite hilarious. Jamie is astounded by pumpkin pie and hush puppies. He "totally" understands the Black experience after a afternoon meal with a black family. He gets a deep understanding of the First Nations people after spending two days with some Navajo: he then gives some "authentic' Navajo recipes using extra virgin olive oil. He buys a complete "cowboy" outfit and goes to a dude ranch, where again he now completely understands the western experience. He keeps putting his spin on recipes and then saying they are totally authentic. Some of the recipes aren't bad but the commentary will make you giggle.

The recipes are wonderful (try the lime cheesecake!) but many of the Mexican ingredients are very hard to find in the GTA.

This book is more about Jamie Oliver the celebrity, and the marketing of him, than it is about food. If you can't get your fill of the bloke you're in for a treat, it's pig-out time.

Reading cookbooks is a passion of mine as is trying out the recipes. Jamie Oliver makes this so easy to combine recipes from all corners of the USA. Highly recommend this book!

How can you not love Jamie Oliver?! His enthusiasm shines throughout this book. His ability to extract enormous flavor from humble ingredients, and his respect for home cooks everywhere is definitely refreshing and inspiring. Not all of the recipes in the book were my cup of tea, but I loved how the book itself conveyed the feeling of a cross country road trip -sort of Route 66ish. The book is beautifully published and reminded me of an old fashioned scrapbook.
Most importantly, the NY cheesecake recipe worked like a charm!
