I loved this book. I am an Andrew Vachss "Burke" fan and Batman fan, I thought he did well combining the two

It would be unfair to say that Vachss didn't try with this book. It would also be unfair to suggest that it's not a true Batman novel. But after reading it, it's hard to find anything positive to say about _Batman: The Ultimate Evil_.

This book takes the character of Batman and uses him to dissect the problem of child abuse. Vachss has the undeniable moral high ground here. But as he sends Bruce Wayne trudging not through intricate traps and ploys, but soul crushingly depressing scenarios involving children, you don't find yourself routing for anyone. You just want the whole situation to end.

I am not trying to say that the message in this book is misguided. But anyone who goes in looking for a tale of the Dark Knight may come out disappointed.
