It was a good summer read, I went through it in two days. I wanted to like the characters, but didn't really connect with any of them. I found myself reading to get it done rather than feeling like I couldn't put it down. I figured out the ending half-way through, but still a good read if you need a filler novel.

A classic summer thriller, redone for a more modern reader. We have updated language, technology, and political situations but it's the same story. Four teenagers are involved in a terrible thing, swear each other to secrecy, until one of them gets a letter with only the title's sentence on it.

Unlike the film this is no slasher. You have an all encompassing mystery involving four people who really don't want anything to do with each other anymore. Compounded in this is the pact of silence - there is nowhere they can turn. Instead they end up having to work with each other and really, really face the facts of what they did.

It's a quick read, the updates aren't all that jarring, and it's still a great bit of nostalgia for me to be reading these again.

First know that this is not the original text of the 1973 book, but an updated version from 2003.

Second, other than the basic premise, this is completely different from the movie. This is more of a mystery / suspense novel, not a horror novel. So if you're expecting blood and guts and a guy with a hook, you'll be disappointed.

I liked the (bad) movie better. There's not much action in the book. But it's a quick read.

This book was made in 1973
before the movie. The somehow they made a second and third movie based on 1 book!? Yet, Movies aren't similar to book AT ALL!

The book was good! I expected it to be similar to the movie but it was so different and had a much better plot. I guess it's always like that. Books are always better than its movie versions.
