This is the original version of this book that Heinlein submitted to his publisher, which has more than 60,000 extra words than the first published edition. His wife brought this out in the 90s after Heinleins death. It has even more of…

All sci-fi serves as a vessel for the author’s dreams, fears, beliefs, but great authors allow your mind to bypass this and see the world for what it is. “Stranger” is stuck in the violent sexism and bizarre societal roles of the 50s while…

Total waste of time. Very strange even for scifi and becomes even stranger when it diverts to pseudo-religion and cultism

Acolassic and should be a must read for tdays readers of science fictin. Heinlein was a brilliant of these kinds of works. His work should be on everybody's list.

Started off exploring a very interesting premise - the cultural/philosophical/moral differences between people from earth and mars. I made it 4/5 of the way through and just couldn’t stomach any more sexism and misogyny. I can understand…

I would have better grokked this fifty years ago. Back then, the old man's endless know-it-all lectures might have been radical revelations. Now he just seems like an jackass whose hubris can't tell the difference between a lecture and…

In general this is a good book. I enjoy catching the references to the future from the mind of someone who lived in the mid-20th century. Some of them are remarkably close to what we experience today and others the author couldn't even…

This was my first Heinlein book. I had to look up a lot of words. The story was really good. I can recognize fellow fans by the term "grok." I've since sought out and read other Heinlein books. And he's from Butler, MO!

This is a story that can alter the way you think about things and give you a new outlook on the way you do things. An interesting story of a man that was raised on another planet and how he learns about Earth and teaches them about how…

Before I read this book my life was Existential Angst in the Fiery Pits of Hell. Now I grok everything and I am at peace. Read it and start your grokking as soon as possible.

I liked this book a lot but lost interest in the end actually as it seemed to go off in an odd direction. up to that point it was very interesting.

This is supposed to be a sci-fi classic, but it's really just misogyny thinly disguised as 1960's hippie hedonism. Also, the superpowers of the man raised by aliens are unlikely (how could he aquire them if it's biologically impossible?).…

The book I liked, an interesting take on a Human being raised by Martians. The one line description here of this book is sorely lacking. Read the description on Amazon.com to get a better idea of what this book is about. :)

Good, but could be better. The first half is really strong, but the second kind of drags. I read the unedited version, and frankly, it needed editing.

I was only able to read until page 35, so please take my opinion with a grain of salt. Lots of sexualizing random things. I mean, there's a reporter whos talking to the only nurse who has seen the martian man, and yet this reporter finds…

Decent read, but polyamory isn't for everyone. More power to those who do well with it.

"There was so much to grok, so little to grok from." Classic sci-fi novel from the dean of American science fiction. With its story of a man from Mars preaching a new gospel, who can see why this big with the 60s counterculture. It's…

I have absolutely no appreciation for sci-fi or fantasy, but I absolutely love this book. I find it amazing that I could enjoy something this much , when normally I would find it "alien".

You can't beat Heinlein for a good read. This novel is one of his very best.

An humbling lesson in humanity, democracy, religion, diplomacy, delivered in an exciting adventure told by a master. The planetary reference now dates somewhat, but replace Mars by a further planet, a moon of Saturn or anywhere else and it…

Reckon I grok it good... Definitely a classic, but wear your disbelief suspenders or something, as with all sci-fi. For maximum surrealism, find the uncensored, complete version, but only if you're into that kind of thing.

gave a new word, grok, to the world. sort of means, do you get it? as in, do you understand what I'm saying to you? this one was extremely popular with the 60s crowd. it spoke to them, and their issues, which they felt powerless about…

a short While ago, I also Read Brave new World, by Huxley. I was struck by key (if polar) similarities in these two books. In this book (spoiler) An individual from a society outside our own is transplanted into is and is struck with the…
